ASLCS Board Members

  John Perkins - Director

In March of 2002 John was invited to join the Community Services Board. He has been a voting member since the AGM on June 17th 2002.

John retired 8 years ago, after running his own manufacturing company in Alberta for approximately 30 years. Along with his wife, John moved to Nakusp in June 2000, having bought a house here in May of that year. John doubts that he will ever move away. He was born in England and has lived in a few different countries. He says he can think of no better place to be than the "most beautiful and friendly village, in the most beautiful and friendly province, in the most beautiful and friendly country in the world."

John is the secretary of the Lakeside Singers Society and sings bass in the choir. He was in the cast of this year’s (2002) Rotary Players dinner theatre production and is also an SPCA volunteer. He sits as vice-chair on the Halcyon Redevelopment Committee. John is also a volunteer literacy tutor for CBAL - Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy.

John says that life in Nakusp is satisfying beyond his wildest dreams and although he moved here to relax and enjoy the beauty of our surroundings, he and his wife soon found it impossible to live here only on those terms. John states:

"There is a palpable sense of community in the village which makes one want to contribute whatever talents one has to the general “pot”. By simply living here one benefits from the efforts of all the other people presently here, and all those who have gone before. To accept without giving back would be an affront to one’s conscience."
