Affordable Housing Symposium
The 2008 Nakusp and Area Affordable Housing Symposium, held on
October 15, 2008 at the Civic Arena in Nakusp, was an
unqualified success. It was attended by 44 individuals from
Nakusp and the outlying townships of New Denver, Slocan,
Revelstoke, Kaslo and Nelson. We were very pleased to host a
number of speakers at this event.
All presentations were very educational and succinct, and were
followed by a short question and answer period. There were
several speakers from various communities to relate their
success stories with this issue, as well as speakers from
governmental agencies to relay details of assistance packages
available to assist with affordable housing.
A highlight of the day was the presentation done by Mark Brunton
of Arrow and Slocan Lakes Community Services Agency, in which he
outlined his plans for the Monashee Apartment complex currently
being planned for our community. The event was concluded with a
general discussion period, during which several action items
were identified as per the attached:

Family Resource Guide - 2009
ASLCS has produced this guide for the Arrow and Slocan Lakes
regions. It is intended to be an asset that will ensure all
community members in the area are aware of the services that are
available to them.
