About ASLCS Counselling Services ...

At Arrow & Slocan Lakes Community Services we have several counselling service mandates. Details of these are provided below.

Mental Health Mandate: provides a counselling program which focuses on children and families in crisis, adults and children suffering from various mental disorders, and dysfunctional families; referral to mental health specialists including psychiatric services. The psychiatric service is a community based program focusing on adults with severe and persistent mental illness.

In July of 2002 ASLCS assisted the Consumer and Family Member Mental Health Advisory Council (CFMMH) with the opening of a new Mental Health Clubhouse facility in Nakusp.

Alcohol and Drug Mandate: provides outpatient counselling for individuals and families experiencing drug including alcohol related problems; provides prevention services involving the community, based on the prevention planning model; referral to detox centres.

Women Victim of Violence Mandate: provides crisis and long term counselling to victim's of violence, including wife assault, sexual assault, and childhood abuse.

Children Who Witness Violence Mandate: helps children who's emotional health and self esteem have been damaged by witnessing abuse; and teaches non-violent ways of conflict resolution to help end the inter-generational cycle of abuse.
