Community Action Program for Children

The Community Action Program for Children (CAP-C) provides activities and resources to increase community capacities and improve the health & wellbeing of families with young children, from birth to age 6. We serve the communities bounded by Edgewood, Trout Lake and Silverton, and work to support new parents and families experiencing geographic or social isolation; financial stress; health challenges; and trauma.

Our programs include community events, family drop-in activities, parent education courses, individualized supports and program referral services.

To help limit the spread of COVID-19 and to adhere to Provincial Health Orders and recommendations, we have adapted our programs and methods of delivery.

Welcome Baby Program

We are excited to be piloting a new program for families, which celebrates the birth of babies in our service communities!  Working in collaboration with Saddle Mountain Medical Clinic; Nakusp Save on Foods; T.H.E. Pharmacy Kaslo, New Denver and Castlegar; New Market Foods and Nakusp PharmaChoice; we are pleased to offer Welcome Baby packages for local families.  Each package includes baby clothing, a range of baby-care samples, coupons, and health / parenting information.

Welcome Baby packages are free and available to all full-time residents with babies from birth through 3 months.
Packages are available by appointment only, so please call Daniela to register and set a meeting time.

Family Drop-In Playgroups

The CAPC program has been pleased to offer drop-in playgroups in recent months, with a range of inside and outside activities in different communities.  It’s been so much fun meeting families and playing together!  Stay tuned to this site and/ or our Facebook page (Community Action Program for Children – ASL), as the CAPC Coordinator will announce if, when and where any future playgroups might occur.

Have a wonderful summer! 😊
